Implementation of the Genetic Resources Protection Program

The National Bank of Biological Material of the National Research Institute of Animal Production performs tasks in the field of conservation of farm animal genetic resources resulting from the implementation of statutory tasks specified in the Act of 10 December 2020 on the organization of breeding and reproduction of farm animals (Journal of Laws 2021, item 36). The activity area covers:

  1. Ex situ in vitro management of farm animal biodiversity conservation, including genetic resources cryopreservation procedures.
  2. Collection, storage and replenishment of the basic collection of biological material from selected species of farm animals as part of the activities of the National Bank of Biological Material.

NBBM is a member of the international EUGENA network

In 2018, the NBBM joined the European Genebank Network for Animal Genetic Resources (EUGENA).
