We have the only unique collection of biological material in Poland
The current collection of the National Bank of Biological Material consists of almost 52 000 of semen from 214 bulls of the breeds Polish Red, Polish Red and White, Polish Black and White, Whitebacks, Simmental, Limousine, Holstein-Friesian of Black and White and Red and White varieties, as well as 87 cattle embryos from 14 donors of Polish Red, Polish Red and White, Polish Black and White breeds and also 1,695 portions of boar semen from 3 donors of the Great White Polish and Złotnicka Spotted, 387 porcine embryos from 35 donors of the Puławska and Złotnicka Spotted breeds. In 2023, the bank also expanded its resources to include semen from 2 stallions Małopolska breed with 112 straws.
The biological material collected from native breeds is used in breeding programmes for in situ conservation of genetic resources in Poland.
